Aug 6, 2019 Day 3
22.2 miles 64.8 total miles
Aspens and Wildflowers
Today, the trail crossed creeks, streams, grassy valleys, aspen-fir forests, and bristlecone pines, leaving the Lost Creek Wilderness Area at mile 6.1 and following the North Fork of Lost Creek upstream. Long Gulch Trailhead marked the end of Segment 4, 14.5 miles into the day. The trail weaves several times in and out of the Lost Creek Wilderness Area in Segments 4 and 5.
It was a cloudy day, and the miles passed quickly. I passed several hikers and two equestrians with their horses camping near the bridges over Rock Creek. I stopped to camp a short distance later. Footsteps and snorting around my tent kept me on edge throughout the night.
